It’s a Wonderful Copyright – While It’s a Wonderful Life is now well established as a classic holiday film, it was a box office flop upon release in 1946 and didn’t gain recognition until the 1970’s when, due to a mistake in copyright protection, the film entered the public domain for all television networks to air it without paying royalties. Later, NBC figured out a way to acquire the rights and prevent other stations from airing. Director, Frank Capra, and actor, Jimmy Stewart, both claimed the film was their favorite film they ever worked on.
